List of Australian and New Zealand cities by number of major sports teams

This is a list of cities and towns in Australia and New Zealand categorised by the number of major sports teams in each city.

Competitions included

For the purpose of this list a 'major' sport team is any that competes in the following competitions:

Competitions that are not included in this list include the New Zealand Basketball League, Football Championship and Rugby League National Competition since the equivalent Australian competitions involve teams nominally representing New Zealand. The New Zealand Rugby Union ITM Cup is not included since the international Super Rugby is a higher level of competition. Australian state leagues for the various sports are not included for the same reason.
